Professor Wang Zhili obtained his Masters degree in Clinical Endocrinology from Tianjin Medical College in 1987. He was quickly promoted to Senior Endocrinologist and became the youngest Director of an Endocrinology Department in China in 1988. He was then approached as Vice-Director of the Tianjin Heart and Endocrine Laboratory, Director of Department of Endocrinology in Tianjin Secondary Hospital and Chief Commissioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Combination Treatment Center for Diabetes. He completed four research projects as a project leader and held an official certificate from authorities in China before he went to work abroad. Two of his projects have received praise from the Chinese government.

　　 Professor Wang was invited by Professor S.R. Bloom, a distinguished Endocrinologist and Diabetologist, to join him at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London in 1990. He obtained his PhD from the University of London in 1995.

　　 Dr. Wang has published 38 original papers in medical journals of the highest standard and presented many papers at international scientific conferences in the past 14 years. Five of his scientific research findings have been original. He has shown that many endogenous peptides play important roles in the regulation of islet function. This work has been valuable to diabetes research, for gene therapy in diabetes and the development of new therapy in diabetes. In USA , the Journal of Clinical Investigation commented that Professor Wang's research work made a significant contribution to diabetes research and patient care. Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily (overseas edition), Xinhuanet, Science and Technology Daily, Health News, Tianjin Daily have also reported on his achievements. CCTV Channel I, Phoenix TV （ European site ） and Xinhua News Agency have had interviews with him. He has been honored by national leaders such as Jiang Zemin, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan because of his contributions to Medical Science and patient care.
