Mr. Zhou Zheng, the Director of the Center, has worked in a medical test center of a military hospital for many years and particularly in immunoassay methodology. His research papers are published in national scientific journals. The Assistant Director of the Center, Ms. Liu Jun has also been undertaking clinical laboratory work for many years. The Center is equipped with highly automated equipment. The routine biochemical and in immunological clinical tests can all be undertaken in the Center. The hematology, viscosity and coagulation analyzers in the Center are the latest models available, as well as an immuno-fluorescence analyzer which can provide very precise results compared with other methods. An Automatic biochemistry analyzer (Toshiba TAB40- FR) can measure liver, kidney and heart function tests, simultaneously at about 400 tests per hour. The constant climate temperature controlled immunoassay laboratory is only one of a few laboratories that are so equipped in China . The laboratory is able to measure diabetes specific peptides, endogenous regulating peptides and undertake islet perfusion studies. In the Center, many tests relating to diabetes complications and diagnosis are new. In addition to insulin, glucagon, c-peptide, levels and presence of insulin antibodies and other tests such as 1.5-AG, GAD-Ab, IAPP, NPY, CGRP, VIP, CCK, PP, GLP-1 and Leptin, are measured routinely. The results from these investigation may provide more accurate information for diabetes diagnosis and classification and eventually treatment.
